The IPAF course is designed to enable operators to manoeuvre, drive and position the MEWPs safely.
IPAF’s MEWP Operator Training is certified by TÜV as conforming to the international standard ISO 18878 Mobile elevating work platforms – Operator (driver) training.

The duration of courses for training on machine categories 3A and 3B is usually 1 day, depending on the candidate’s experience and theory type chosen (eLearning or classroom).
Upon successful completion of an IPAF course, participants receive a digital IPAF PAL (Powered Access License) card, which serves as a recognized certification of their competence.
Candidates will be required to have a level of literacy that enables them to fully understand safety notices and manufacturer’s instruction manuals.
Candidates also need to be physically fit, in good health and should not have problems with eyesight or hearing as the course involves the operating of MEWPs.
No formal qualifications are required.
For the practical session candidates will need suitable head (hard hat with a chin strap is preferable), eye and footwear including a hi-vis jacket/vest, harness and lanyard, with short adjustable lanyard.
Learners can complete the theory element of their training either as eLearning or in the classroom prior to the practical training and test.
IPAF MEWP Operator eLearning training course is available in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
Trainees who complete the online training course must still complete a minimum half-day of practical training and testing before qualifying for a PAL Card.
