The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Controlling Lifting Operations is ideal for individuals responsible for safely attaching and detaching loads, directing crane movements, and maintaining constant communication with crane operators to ensure a safe and efficient lifting process. It is also known as Slinger/Signaller qualification.

How it works:

Registration: Upon enrolment, we’ll assign a dedicated assessor to you.
Site Visits: Your assessor will schedule site visits based on your work availability to observe your skills.
Evidence Gathering: During these visits, your assessor will capture evidence through photos, videos, and recording.
Workbook: You will complete a workbook questionnaire containing knowledge questions about your role.
Discussion: You will discuss with your assessor how you carry out your role.
Completion: The qualification is typically achieved within 6-8 weeks.

Entry requirements

To enrol onto this NVQ learners must have already completed one of the below training courses and be in possession of the red CPCS or NPORS card:

CPCS A40 Slinger Signaller/Slinger Banksman course
NPORS N402 Slinger Signaller course

Delegates must be able to communicate effectively in both spoken and written English.

Assessment

Practical Observation on-site. This includes documenting tasks like:
- Communication: Effective communication with the crane operator using hand signals and verbal commands.
- Rigging: Correctly attaching and detaching heavy loads using appropriate slings and chains.
- Safety checks: Conducting pre-lift inspections of slings, hooks, and other equipment.
- Load handling: Safely handling and positioning heavy loads during lifting operations.
- Documentation: Completing necessary paperwork, such as load sheets and inspection reports.
Workbook questionnaire to be completed over a 6-8 week period, at your own pace
