ICATS Course

Accredited by the Institute of Corrosion, the Industrial Coatings Applicator (ICA) course is split into theoretical and practical elements, with ongoing assessments throughout to provide candidate’s with in-depth knowledge to become ICATS qualified.

This ICATS Course is recognized by the Institute of Corrosion Research (ICorr).
In this course, you will have 4 days of theory and 1 day of practice.

Upon successfully completing the course, candidates will earn an

Industrial Coatings Applicator certification.

Newly qualified ICATS Industrial Coatings Applicators receive an ICATS card which also displays the CSCS logo, and is competent to prepare surfaces and apply coatings.

ICATS certification is valid for 3 years. At the point of renewal, the qualification holder must reapply for the ICATS card.

The ICA course is broken down into 12 chapters covering:

  1. Introduction
  2. Health and safety in painting
  3. Corrosion protection
  4. Standards and normative documents
  5. Working processes
  6. Adhesion and paint service
  7. Paint application
  8. Access options
  9. Tools and equipment maintenance
  10. Specific industries
  11. Environment (aspects and impacts)
  12. Painting Inspection

 

If you’re looking for an alternative Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations it might be an option.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
A qualified ICATS operative will carry out an initial assessment of candidate skills and knowledge to identify any gaps and prepare them for ICATS ICA training.

There will be Multi Choice Questions for the theory and practical assessment.
