ICATS Course

Accredited by the Institute of Corrosion, the Industrial Coatings Applicator (ICA) course is split into theoretical and practical elements, with ongoing assessments throughout to provide candidate’s with in-depth knowledge to become ICATS qualified.

This ICATS Course is recognized by the Institute of Corrosion Research (ICorr). It is mandated by National Highways , and is relevant across all sectors in which corrosion plays a role. These include construction, oil and gas, petrochemicals, nuclear and marine industries.

In this course, you will have 4 days of theory and practical assessments covering various elements of coating applications, including:

  • Surface preparation
  • Coating techniques
  • Equipment usage
  • Health and safety
  • Environmental considerations
  • Corrosion protection
  • Paint types
  • Painting inspection (QA and QC)

Upon successfully completing the course, you will earn an Industrial Coatings Applicator certification.

The ICATS card also displays the CSCS logo, confirming holders are suitably trained and qualified in Industrial Coating Application and they will not need another CSCS card to work on sites which require CSCS certification.

ICATS certification is valid for 3 years. At the point of renewal, you will have to reapply for the ICATS card.

If you’re looking for an alternative Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Decorative Finishing and Industrial Painting Occupations might be an option.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
A qualified ICATS operative will carry out an initial assessment of candidate skills and knowledge to identify any gaps and prepare them for ICATS ICA training.

There will be Multi Choice Questions for the theory and practical assessment.
